Armel Hostiou is a filmmaker who lives and works in Paris. After graduating from La fémis film school in Paris, he began directed short films: SoloS (Best Experimental Tel Aviv 2004), Contre Temps (Audience Award Munich 2006) or World was on fire and no one could save me but you (Audience Award San Francisco 2008). His work in film creates new narrative systems based especially on a combination of music and image. In the last few years he has developed in parallel video art projects, directing experimental films and creating installation-based work; one of his most recent is Anatomie d’une ville (2008, 30’‘, 4 screens) — a portrait of a city, Paris, in 24 hours. His video Traces was shown at Le grand palais exhibition “Dans la nuit, les images” curated by Alain Fleisher in December 2008. He also directed many music videos, mixing various live-action and motion graphics techniques. He has recently worked with the american label Asthmatic Kitty.
